One of the things that I have noticed over the many moves I have performed in the past eight years is that the most devilish things to move are the description-defying items such as kitschy graduation gifts, old office supplies, thrift store artwork, and old software.
I have been attempting to clean out the playhouse recently; it is full of such things. Or at least, it was. The software I decided would be well suited to one of the three giant plastic lidded tubs which carried my six years worth of schoolwork. Earlier this week, I threw out one supplemental box full of old schoolwork, and this week I threw out another.
I see the good work I did and I miss those days. But I also see the poor work I did and I recall some very black feelings. At any rate, it feels good to rid myself of these old possessions and references.
The other part to this post is related to the first, but I am struggling to figure out how and why. Sunday, I completed a task I had put off for months: wiring the fluorescent light fixtures in the garage to run off two three-way light switches. It has never been easy to walk to the far end of the garage and open the end door (which is opposite the guest house) and turn off the lights. Likewise, it was a hassle to walk to the south end to turn on the lights when I really needed to see my way on the north end of the garage. The problem is solved. On the first try, I tried to wire the three-way switches with power coming through the fixture. This works only with one fixture, however. So I switched to Plan B, which called for power to go through the switches. Only one short run had to be dropped, and I was able to use the conduit from the earlier installation. I also had to rewire the switches. All in all, switching to Plan B cost me only 15 minutes. I am very happy with my new arrangement.
