Decals

img004.jpgThe conventional wisdom on F1's holds that the 1985's were somewhat underpowered and difficult to ride, but that they are more collectible on account of the aluminum fuel tank. The other reason I consider the 1985's to be more collectible is that 1985 was the last time (until the introduction of the MHe, years later) the distinctive Giugiaro graphics appeared on a Ducati.

Which brings us to the topic of getting replacement decals for the F1. I have decided to paint over the number plate on the tailpiece, since the number plate in itself does not add to the history of the bike as much as the stock graphics do. As I looked online for a set of reproduction stickers for the tailpiece, I was reminded of a conversation one evening at the original location of Moss Machine. Somebody asked whether or not it was possible to purchase metal extruded into all kinds of exotic shapes. Derek replied with the wisdom of someone who creates custom stuff for a living: "You can get anything. The only question is the cost." I learned the cost for replicas of the original decal set, having just spent more money than I should have on a fresh set of decals for the tailpiece on the F1. This motorcycle won't ever be concourse-eligible, but it will have the right set of stickers on it.
