Diligence
I have noted before that blogs suffer in proportion to the interesting things the author is up to. It has been a busy week here at the Ranchito. Here is an update of sorts of items conspiring to deprive my readers of their blogging experience.
- Trip to Palo Alto: Sherm dropped me off at the Sunport, where after flirting with a nosering-wearing co-ed, I boarded a flight to San Jose via LAX. Two bimbos en route to a conference without pause and at high volume broadcast their general ignorance about topography, demography, and shopping. At SJO, I rode a shuttle to the light rail and took the scenic route through the South Bay to Mountain View, where my mom picked me up. Over the next couple of days, I supported my folks on various account creations and set up and helped install the hardtop on the Miata. Drive from PA to ABQ: If this sounds familiar, it was to me too. Co-pilot and I departed after breakfast, witnessed a little fog in Gilroy and went through Casa de Fruta to I-5. For a little variety, we took the Arvin cutoff rather than the usual Wasco route to 58. Co-pilot and I stopped at the exact same rest stops as Roomie and I did several weeks ago. We even stopped at the Dambar for a steak.
- Day Two of the drive was a little more tiring. Two consecutive days stuffed in a hardtopped sportscar is a little wearing, less so on me than on 6'2" Co-pilot. But we pulled up into Albuquerque at 3:30pm, one of us delighted to be home.
- By the time we got there, the old garage was a memory. A dusty one, however. The slab which once sat under the chicken coop and the pile of random detritus was also removed.
- Co-pilot's visit gave us occasion to dine on sopaipillas at Garcia's, walk through the open space preserve and observe a large flock of sandhill cranes, and drive up and down the streets of Albuquerque looking at buildings with roll-top doors. Eventually, we collapse in the living room and drink a little too much red wine.
- The new job began today. I survived it. As tempting as it is to blog about it, I shall resist.
The garage should go up quickly: The concrete guys will do the slab forms tomorrow, we pour and pick out service doors Saturday, and the framers begin a week from today. Once they show up, we should see results quickly.
