Warning: Geekery Spoken Herein

I have decided that I am a MovableType fan. Although SixApart, or as the cognoscienti call them 6A are rapidly digesting other blog systems (TypePad, LiveJournal), MT impresses me with its ability to create and maintain what are essentially databases of entries.

I have been thinking how I might be able to incorporate the entire mayoreric webspace under MT. However, I have learned that there is often a considerable distance betweeen the thought experiment and the implementation and that the thought experiment is usually a whole lot more fun. However, MT has created its site with MT (naturally), and so I am encouraged.

I am also intrigued by the idea of breaking free of the old blog's look. This look is one especially crafted for MT3.0, but I am sure that the stylesheet could be adapted for 2.6. The hard part about totally leaving the formula behind is that it forces one to come up with a new look on one's own. It is both liberating and a whole lot of work. That is why I have so much respect for Heck's Kitchen, Dooce and other blogs that tweak their own code. So many of the looks that I like are cliches, and I reckon that there are limits to what the preponderance of web browsers will support, font and color wise.

Today and tomorrow, I take a short course in Dreamweaver. Since I have created most of the website in Dreamweaver already, it will likely be a waste of time. I find that generally intro courses in technology are pretty shallow, if the student has the slightest exposure to the package. Hopefully, a CSS course scheduled for later in the semester will not be a similar waste of time.
